Dorothy “Dottie” Sloan Atkinson ’50
Thanks to that sense of belonging, and because she was passionate about education, Dorothy “Dottie” Sloan Atkinson ’50 was both loyal and generous to Bryn Mawr. She was also determined to make a difference in the world. Armed with her AB in Psychology from Bryn Mawr College and MSW from the University of Pennsylvania, Dottie returned to her beloved city, Baltimore. She worked the next 32 years for the Baltimore City Department of Social Services touching the lives of countless residents.
Now, she will do the same for countless Bryn Mawr students. Before Dottie passed away in December of 2015, she established a foundation and directed her estate to provide scholarships in her memory. Her bequest supports the College’s commitment to a socio-economically and ethnically diverse population of students regardless of their ability to afford our transformative education.
Ultimately, Dottie’s extraordinary bequest advances the College’s longstanding academic excellence and strengthens her legacy through each new generation of talented women.
Thank you, Dottie.
