Lois Collier

A proud, dedicated alumna, Lois M. Collier was a benefactor to Bryn Mawr College for many years, providing annual support for the Bryn Mawr Fund and special funding for projects such as the Collier Science Library and Cambrian Row. She was a steadfast volunteer for the College including serving as trustee for sixteen years. Before her passing in 2013, she stated in an interview with the College, “my years at Bryn Mawr were very special and formative, and I believe in its mission.”

Lois and her husband Reginald B. (Reg) Collier, a Haverford alumnus who shared her deep attachment to Bryn Mawr, focused their philanthropy on opportunities for current students to expand their knowledge inside and outside of the classroom. They were devoted to ensuring that Bryn Mawr College maintains its commitment to excellence and to attracting the brightest young women.  As a result, The Lois M. Collier Trust, established through Lois’ will, has created a scholarship that bears her name and continues her legacy and commitment to the College.

Lois M. Collier, Class of 1950

The Lois M. Collier Scholarship is awarded exclusively on merit to first-time undergraduate applicants who excel academically, are dedicated to intellectual curiosity and demonstrate a genuine passion for lifelong learning.  Additionally, the selected Collier Scholar must be committed to civic engagement and creating a legacy for her own community. The two inaugural Collier Scholars, first-year students Emily Greetis and Sophie Friedenwald-Fishman, were presented with their awards on August 30, 2019. Both have outstanding academic records with extensive backgrounds as student-leaders in their respective high school communities. With the support of the Lois M. Collier Scholarship, they can further hone their ambitions at Bryn Mawr College.

Scholarships such as these are critical to ensuring that the best and brightest students can attend Bryn Mawr regardless of their financial circumstances.
