In Retirement

Giving to Bryn Mawr can make your retirement happier, healthier and more purposeful, according to a study by Merrill Lynch/Bank of America. The “Giving in Retirement: America’s Longevity Bonus” report, based on a study conducted by the Bank in partnership with Age Wave, brings to light the many rewards of giving in retirement, including why retirees are able to give more and with greater impact – as well as the good health bonuses that can come through giving with purpose.
The report highlights that, in retirement, women are the more generous gender, and are increasingly taking control of giving. In particular:

  • Women are more likely than men to say that retirement is the best time in life to give back (68% vs 62%).
  • Women are more likely than men to say that they get greater happiness from “helping people in need” than from “spending money on themselves.”
  • Women are more likely than men to define success by generosity vs. wealth.
